Emergency Closings

AUDITION & FESTIVAL EMERGENCY CANCELLATION POLICY

Audition and Festival cancellation due to a weather emergency would be:

  • posted on the ECMEA web site under Emergency Closing
  • reported on WIVB.com (Channel 4)
  • reported on WBEN.com  (News Radio 930 AM)
  • reported on WGRZ.com (Channel 2)

Possible storm scenarios:

Elementary Rehearsals:

If the Rehearsal Host School is closed on a rehearsal day, there will not be an All-County rehearsal. The festival will resume with the next scheduled rehearsal.

If the Rehearsal Host School is open on a rehearsal day but your district is closed, rehearsals will be held. Your students may attend but, because your school is closed, your students will not be required to attend.

If the Rehearsal Host School is open on a rehearsal day and your district is open BUT your district has cancelled all after school activities (and you therefore have no bus transportation), your students may attend rehearsal but they are not required to attend. Should this occur, send an email to pfurlong@ecmea.org to report this action.

Junior & Senior High Rehearsals (including Jazz):

If the Host School is closed on the Friday rehearsal day, there will not be an All-County rehearsal. The festival will resume on Saturday morning with the next scheduled rehearsal. The concerts will occur as scheduled, performing as much music as can be prepared during the morning rehearsal.

If the Host School is open on a rehearsal day but your district is closed, rehearsals will be held. Your students may attend but, because your school is closed, your students will not be required to attend.

If the Host School is open on a rehearsal day and your district is open BUT your district has cancelled all after school activities (and you therefore have no bus transportation), your students may attend rehearsal but they are not required to attend. Should this occur, send an email to pfurlong@ecmea.org to report this action.

If the Host School is closed on the day of the concert, the concert is cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

 

SELECTING AN ALL-COUNTY ENSEMBLE - SHOULD AN AUDITION BE CANCELED

  1. Students who registered to perform an all-county audition this year and who did not cancel or withdraw from the audition, and were selected to an all-county ensemble last year, will be placed in this year’s all-county ensemble.  Those who were selected to chorus last year will be placed in chorus; those selected to band/orch will be placed in band/orch.
  1. After the students who meet the criteria in #1 are placed into an all-county ensemble, students will be chosen from last year’s alternate list. 
  1. Next, teachers will be asked to “recommend” other registered students using the comment section on SoloChair.  The remaining all-county positions will be filled from the group of recommended students. Various factors will be considered by a selection committee, including previous scores, current grade level as well as teacher recommendation.
