"The arts are an essential element of education...[they] unlock profound human understanding and accomplishment." —W. Bennett

For Parents

Your child’s selection for one of ECMEA’s All-County ensembles is an outstanding achievement. With over 4,000 students auditioning, this indicates exceptional musical talent, and a high degree of discipline and commitment. The following are the expectations regarding your child’s participation.

Your child’s full participation in all rehearsals is required. If a conflict arises that would interfere with this requirement, your child must choose the activity that is more important to them. Notify your child’s teacher immediately if he/she is not able to fulfill this All-County commitment, so that an alternate can be selected.

Students must be in their seat, ready to warm up and tune 15 minutes before the scheduled rehearsal time. Late arrivals will be dismissed from the ensemble. Because rehearsal time is limited, it is ECMEA policy that students may not miss any rehearsal or any part of a rehearsal for any reason including illness. No exceptions will be made.  A nurse is on site at the Elementary and Junior High Festivals.

The use of any electronic device (cell phone, electronic texting, etc.) is prohibited during rehearsals.

Students will be supervised during rehearsals and after the performance. Students will be given a name tag which must be worn at all times. This identifies performers and their ensemble for teachers and attendance purposes. Any student whose behavior is deemed inappropriate at the all-county festival will be dismissed from the ensemble by the Chairperson.

ECMEA is not responsible for loss or damage to musical instruments or personal property.

CONCERTS – Elementary & Junior High:

Each festival consists of two separate concerts. Check your child’s rehearsal schedule for arrival times. Each concert is about one hour in length and includes two performing ensembles. Audience seating will begin after the dress rehearsal, approximately one hour before the concert. Students must remain under ECMEA supervision for their entire concert. This means that they are not free to leave or join their parents until after the last ensemble performs. This is standard concert protocol. We encourage you to also enjoy the entire concert.

CONCERTS - Senior High (2019):

In order to accommodate audience seating, the Senior High performances will follow the schedule below:

1:00-Doors open   1:30-Chorus  2:30-Band  3:30-Orchestra

General admission tickets for each ECMEA All-County concert are available one hour prior to each performance at $6.00 per ticket. (Ticket price is the same for child, adult, senior). Only Elementary concerts have advance ticket sales.  Elementary ticket order envelopes are included with students' music and will be collected at the first rehearsal.  There is no refund for unused tickets.

Elementary Festival only - Please note that there is a parking fee charged by the City of Buffalo at Kleinhans Music Hall parking lot. ECMEA has no voice in the parking fee nor does ECMEA receive any amount of this fee.

Souvenir T-shirts, hoodies, and concert recordings will be on sale in the auditorium foyer.

We will provide an opportunity for you to take pictures at the conclusion of each ensemble’s performance. If you wish to use a video camera, we ask that you stand on the side or in the back of the auditorium and not run cords in aisles.

A photograph or video recording may be made by ECMEA for publicity or ECMEA use. To exclude your child from ECMEA photographs or videos, you must notify the ECMEA Office in writing by February 1st.

Please also read articles included in Festival Guidelines as well as specifics for Choral, Instrumental, Jazz, or Percussion.

We want this to be a positive experience for everyone, as well as a learning and inspirational opportunity for the young musician in your family.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
